The Big Guns come out to play and claw back large deficits

Pete Corby KO Cup

Healey Hotel beat the Blue Pits Raiders by 4 points after gradually reducing the initial 16
point advantage that the Raiders had. After 6 rounds a weakened 4 person Comrades
team with skipper Neil Wright away and John Keegan and Steve Pryslak late absentees
trailed the Flyers by 1 point 49-50 - however their luck then ran out as they managed
only 2 points in the final two rounds to hand the match to the Flyers. An in form
Lancashire Fold Vault team, according to Alan Anderson, did a Britney Spears ("Baby
one more time" and "Oops!... We Did It Again") and easily beat the Roebuck Romanies
not even needing their handicap advantage. The final match in the Cup went to
Whitworth Band Club who gave themselves a chance of silverware with consistent
scoring and a 7 point victory over Woolworths SSC.

Geoff Ellison Memorial Plate

After tonight's matches only division 1 teams remain in the Plate and it is anyone's to
win - Blue Pits Rovers clawed back a 16 point deficit to ease past Royle Bowling Club in
the "Castleton Derby". Lancashire Fold kept their nerve and their chance of winning the
trophy named after one of their former colleague and player after just edging out the
Cemetery Yoyos. Bay Horse Bandits had a very convincing 11 point win over Woodside
Club, and the Spotland versus Norden Bowling Club match ended up being a cracker
according to Mick Coats - a two point last gasp victory for the Spotland outfit saw them
scrape through!

This week saw the theme as "A gallon of beer" and all teams scored more than their
season's overall gallon average. Blue Pits Rovers and Lancashire Fold shared the top score
of the night with both teams just missing out on a maximum. There were some close
matches though with the Bay Horse Bandits and Woodside Club sharing the spoils with
an 18-18 draw. It should be noted that after some very poor gallon performances even
the Flyers managed not only to win but this week had a double figure score! Rumour
also has it that the bookies have already paid out for the Blue Pits divisional winners

Next week sees the final league matches with just the division 2 winners / runners up to
be decided. It is a mixed set based upon a set provided by a mystery guest setter (revealed
on the night)!
It is time to think about the pairs competition which will be held at Norden Bowling
Club on the 19th April 2017. It would help me with the preparation and catering if teams
and pairs could let me know who will be attending, especially after the poor response to
the Open team handicap!

Good Luck to all teams

Many Thanks - Simon
